At Hukanui School, we are committed to nurturing a learning environment where Te Reo Māori is valued, visible, and used every day. Our tamariki are supported to grow their confidence in te reo through fun, meaningful experiences—like kōrero in class, waiata, karakia, traditional games and tikanga experiences such as, Marae visits. We integrate Te Reo Māori across the curriculum and encourage the use of everyday phrases both in and out of the classroom. By working together with our whānau and community, we aim to support the revitalisation of Te Reo Māori and strengthen cultural identity for all.

Hukanui School is a proud member of Te Pae Here Kaahui Ako. Built on a relationship of trust and respect, Te Pae Here schools have worked with our local hapuu, Ngaati Wairere, to create an amazing website where Ngaati Wairere kaumaatua have shared their stories for teachers to use in their lessons and to inform their practice. This site and the stories it holds is considered a taonga for our community.
We would like to acknowledge all those who have supported us on this journey—particularly Ngaati Wairere, who have been incredibly gracious and generous towards us. We have also enjoyed using resources from the Māori Club website and would strongly recommend these to other kaiako and kura.
